Do I have to be a Christian to come to get help?
No.  We are here to serve the community with our training, tools and skills.  We will respect your strongly held values and beliefs.

Is the treatment Biblically based?
We are committed Christians who believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and the fullness of the Holy Spirit is for today.  We respect your personal beliefs and doctrine and incorporate the scriptures and prayer as much as you desire it to have a part in the process.

How much does it cost and do you accept credit cards?
Allison Hodge, licensed MFT, charges $275 for a fifty minute session for individual therapy and $300 for couples and families. Help From Him accepts credit and debit cards, health savings account cards, cash or checks at the time of service.

Can I use my insurance?
We do not accept any payment from insurance.  However, if your health plan allows you to choose an out of network provider, you may be able to be reimbursed directly for services for a licensed professional only.  However, Interns can not bill insurance for reimbursement.

First contact your insurance company and ask:

  • Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
  • What is my coverage- number of sessions or percentage- for a provider outside of the network?
  • What is my deductable and has it been met?
  • Do I need to get any pre-authorization before my first appointment to go the out-of-network provider?
  • Do my benefits cover a California licensed marriage and family therapist?

Once you have this information, you can make an appointment.  At your first appointment bring your insurance information to the therapist such as identification number, group number, plan name, plan code, and billing address if you have not filled out an intake form.  At the end of each month, the therapist will bill the insurance.  It is the patient’s responsibility to contact the insurance for any problems in reimbursement.

If I use my insurance is it still confidential?
When you use insurance for reimbursement, the insurance company has the right to request information regarding treatment, such as dates of service, diagnosis, and progress notes.

What if I want a Christian therapist and want to go through my insurance?
If you are looking for a Christian therapist and want to use your insurance, you can always call member services and ask if they have any therapists who are Christian in religious orientation.  Some plans include this information in the profiles of their providers.  Then when you call the therapist to make an appointment, ask whatever is important to you about them being a Christian.

Is there a free initial consultation?
No. The first session is the regular fee for service.

Can you prescribe medication?
No.  Only a Psychiatrist, M.D. can prescribe medication.

How is a Christian therapist different?
The Christian therapist not only will respect your strongly held beliefs and moral values, but will understand the commitment and struggle in holding the biblical principles for life.  If the bible is your framework for your belief system, it is beneficial to have a therapist who can dialogue with you about the foundation of your belief system.  The Christian therapist can pray with you in session at your request.

How long is a session generally?

  • Individual psychotherapy sessions are 50 minutes
  • Play therapy sessions are 45 minutes
  • Group therapy is 75 minutes
  • Couples therapy is 50or 100 minutes
  • Family therapy is 50 or 100 minutes

How often will I need to come for sessions?
Weekly.  Same time, same place.  You will obtain the most benefit from your treatment if you are consistent and on time to your regular weekly appointment.  When you and your therapist set your weekly appointment, this time is reserved for you.  You will be expected to keep that appointment time unless you have a serious emergency.  There is a 48 hour cancellation policy or you will be charged the full fee for the appointment.

How long will I be in therapy?
The length of treatment is determined by a few factors such as severity of symptoms, longevity of issues, and the client’s willingness to change.  This joint decision is determined by you and the therapist.  However, you may terminate therapy at any time with the agreement to have a final session for closure of treatment.

Do you see couples that are not married?
Yes.  We are relationship therapists.  We treat any couple that desires to work on their relationship.

What hours are you available?
Weekday and evening appointments are available by appointment only.

How do I get started?
- Initial sessions are scheduled over the telephone or email.
- Contact us to schedule your first appointment.
- Call your insurance to find out if you have coverage.
- After making your first appointment, go to "consent forms"and download the consent form for the type of treatment you will be seeking, fill it out and bring it to your first appointment.

Since I have never been to therapy what can I expect?
Therapists are usually in appointments and do not answer the phone.  Leave a voicemail on the office number.  You can expect a call back within 24 hours.  Then you can schedule the initial appointment with a time that works for you and the therapist.  Before the first session, you can download the consent form and fill it out.  At the first session you will have the opportunity to share what has brought you to therapy.  The therapist will ask you questions.  This is also a good time for you to ask any questions you have regarding the therapy.

Do you have marriage and family therapist interns.

We are currently interviewing for interns and licensed therapists to join the practice.  Please click on the link below if you are interested in applying at Help From Him.  Pre-licensed marriage and family therapist interns are under direct supervision of a licensed marriage and family therapist. Interns have completed their formal education and are in the process of obtaining the required 3000 therapy hours in order to obtain state licensure and must be supervised by a licensed clinician.
